Introducing the new Gays.com Chat
January 6th, 2009
Just before the Christmas break, Gays.com quietly launched our new webbased chat (along with our new look) that allows you to see which of your friends are online and to chat with them on a one-to-one basis. You’ll see this new feature in the new horizontal bar located right below the Gays.com logo when you log in.
The new chat utility is built on Jabber, which is — without getting into too much technical jargon — an open-source protocol for instant messaging similar to MSN, ICQ, AOL Messenger and IRC that is used by millions and millions of people around the world today. [This means, who knows, in the future, all sorts of cool third-party chat clients and applications could be used to access Gays.com!]
What makes Gays.com Chat cool is that the different sections in your main chat window for open chats, available and idle contacts are all collapsible, and you can even move your chat windows around to wherever you like them!
As with all other new features we’ve developed on Gays.com, the new tool you see before you is a work in progress (really, everything is since we’re still in beta status). We’ll be tweaking its look and feel as we go along, adding support for things like emoticons and links. In the meantime, we welcome your feedback (and bug reports) in the comments on this post!

Gays.com isn’t worth a damn if you can’t even join up or sign in because the main page doesn’t recognize you as living in a small town. Guess what? Not all the fags live in big cities! Surprise! It’s irritating when other gays don’t even recognize you because you don’t live somewhere they know about. Gays.com main page is screwed up. There’s no way to sign in or get registered because of the screwed up way they accept…or rather, reject…your location. I’m tired of wasting my time trying to even sign in to the site, which I’ve yet to actually do because of their screw-up.

Hi Tracy,
I’m sorry to hear that you had trouble selecting your city from the list. Because the location database is not quite complete yet, we created a link below the location list that allows you to suggest any city or town that might still be missing. It’s not added immediately, so you have to chose a bigger city nearby at first, but we will add your place within a few days and notify you once it’s available.
Please give it another try and let us know if you need any more help with this. Glad to have you join this community! :-)

Hey, just wondering if you are going to put it a common room feature, like IRC… That would be cool.. because I have no friends as yet LOL!
