Get creative this Valentine’s on Gays.com!

February 8th, 2012 1 Comment. Features, Gay News

Gays.com’s Community Assistant and social media whizz Calvin Holbrook tells us why getting creative with your Valentine’s is a sure-fire hit and can bag you the interest of your desire… as well as some Gays.com goodies!

Now, I’m not saying I wouldn’t turn down a box of choccies, flowers or a card from a secret admirer this Valentine’s (in fact I’d be grateful for ANYTHING – hint, hint, readers), but, in my opinion, when someone puts a little creative effort into a gift, it really makes a difference.

Don’t you agree that creativity is such a turn-on? I’ve never been one for material things, so I guess that’s why the DIY approach appeals to me so much. For example, why buy someone a Valentine’s card when you can make one yourself? OK, OK, so it takes a bit more time, but it’s more likely your loved one will cherish it.

I’ve got a great example of this. :) Back when I was working on a teenage magazine in London, I met a very cute blonde guy one New Year’s Eve in a pub. According to him, I was wearing my “pulling jumper”… Many pints of beer later and, well, the jumper had done its job and I had well and truly pulled. Fast forward a couple of months to 14 February and a rather curious looking tube arrived at my desk…

Now, how sweet is that?! Combining my love of Scrabble into a mystery Valentine’s love letter… well, turns out it was from blondie, so not such a mystery afterall :)

A decade on, I still keep this momento. I mean, how could you chuck that away?! Every time I dig around in my cardboard box of keep-sakes and find this, it makes me smile.

The Gays.com creative Valentine’s challenge

So, instead of sending a card or a box of chocolates, we are challenging Gays.com members to come up with equally as creative Valentine’s gifts or messages, to take a piccie/make a video, and send us the results at love@gays.com.

It could be that you already have a partner and just want to tell them that you think the world of them. Or perhaps there is someone on Gays.com you’ve been chatting with or winked at and you wanna let them know you’re keen… Cryptic or just BLATANT, this is your chance to show the world that you’re in love with someone… or just think they’re damn HOT!

So, what kind of things could you do? Well, that’s down to you, but here’s a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing (and hopefully some other juices afterwards, he he):

* Spraying their name and love message in the snow
* Making an original gift (OK, but no copying my present from above!)
* Painting a picture
* Writing a poem
* Leaving love hearts all over your house
* Running a hot bath and filling the bathroom full of candles
* Writing their name in huge letters in the sand
* Making a video proclaiming your love
* Cooking up a dinner with only red or pink things…..

Well, enough! Now, it’s over to you! As well as posting the best photos on the Gays.com home page, we┬┤ll make an album on our Facebook and the photos that get the most ‘Likes’ will win a Gays.com goodie bag.

So, get creative and send your pictures plus name and location to love@gays.com
We’re waiting… MWAH!
