Tales from the development trenches

May 9th, 2008 No Comments Features

Hey there gorgeous, looking good! Have you done something different with your hair? It looks goooood. Keep it like that, it totally suits you.

Yup, time again for more tales from the development trenches. Project Rocketsphere 66 (formerely known as The Liquid Ninja Project) is ticking along quite nicely, and as you will have seen in our sneak preview post a short time ago, the site is looking pretty scrumptious. In fact, most of the work in this sprint has been towards making the site more yummy(thats a technical term, honest!), ironing out those troublesome bugs, and generally making the site ready for you lovely, lovely people.

This month the development team has been trying out yet another tenet of Extreme Programming, namely Test Driven Development. Before developing a new feature, let’s call it the moustachio matchio, we write tests that this feature should pass (i.e. do these two moustaches match?, can these moustaches be more awesome?). The development phase is then focused on getting the feature to pass these tests, which ensures that the feature doesn’t do more than it should (wasting oh so precious development time) and also that the feature has fewer bugs (as the code passes tests which prove its functionality). Yes, Test Driven Development (or TDD to the in-crowd) is a good thing, and seems to be working well for us.

In other news, Friday’s have recently become ‘SuperAwesomeCasualFridays’ . Since there’s no dress code during the week, we’ve started to turn up in suits on Friday’s, which is good, because before I started to work at Gays, I bought myself a sharp and snazzy suit which since then never graced the light of day. Most people have got into the spirit of things, even Django the cuddly, cute and crazy canine, and unofficial Gays.com mascot.

Well that’s all from me for now folks, I’ll see you same time next month for some more development madness. Take care, and don’t change your hair cos it looks awesome, trust me ;).
