From Truth Wins Out: “Lester Leavitt, believing what his Mormon Church taught him about overcoming his attraction to men, married Barbara in 1981. After 23 years together, they both now know the Truth about that advice. One couple’s story of love, grace and a friendship anchored in trust.”

Very heartwarming. When I came out to my ex-husband after 23 years together, he was initially very loving and supportive, yet sad to be losing his wife. When he told the church, that very day he went from working with me to keep our family intact to initiating “Biblical Discipline” where my church announced my “sin” (of being gay) in a public worship service, followed by a year of shunning by my fellow church members, followed by my formal dis-fellowshipping from that church that included them praying for my death so that I would no longer bring reproach upon the name of Jesus Christ. I lost my best friend, home, children, dog and everything I ever owned thanks to the “loving” influence of the church in his life. I am over the loss of all of the property and material things with ONE exception: his presence in my life…

I am now the “BLACKSHEEP” of the Church Of Jesus Christ OF Latter Day Saints! Before I came out I was treated like a prince then when I came out I was still welcomed in but was not allowed to participate in sacrament or hold any callings……….. I still believe in the church and still have a testimony but they choose no longer to hear it but I believe my heavenly father still hears me and yes he loves me!!

I thank God for all the people that are fighting against homophobia and discrimination in Christian Churches. Fortunatelly I’m an Episcopalian (Anglican) clregy and my parish welcomes everybody. We are paying the price for our openess but we aree writting History. In mmy country we are the first Church that is open for everybody regardless sexual orientation. Please, pray for us.
