What do you do when you’re passionate about communicating and even more passionate about being out and proud to be gay? You join the gays.com team! So, I’m more than delighted to have become the new Community Manager for Gays.com To say I’m excited about working with my LGBT family would be an understatement. I plan on getting involved with YOU and gaining a better understanding of all those things that matter to YOU!
So a bit about me. I hail from London, born and bred; raised by Jamaican parents so I had the pleasure of growing up with two cultures. I knew from a very early age that I was gay, never quite understood that word and never called myself that, but I knew I loved me some girls! My journey was a long one, and perhaps my coming out story can be reserved for another post, but let’s just say that when I did come out, it wasn’t so much as coming out of the closet as throwing myself out of it and saying: “Woooohoooo, look at me, I’m a lesbian!!” So eager was I to claim my sexual orientation, acting as if I were the only gay in the world, that I went on a search to find out what being gay was all about.
My search led me to many a curious place, but then I happened upon (it’s like I’m writing a fairy tale story of my life) a wonderful yahoo support group called: Support Group for Lesbians Coming Out. I was so involved with this community for women who are either questioning, in the closet or out and proud, that I was asked to volunteer as a moderator. The next step really, was to combine my community experience with my professional experience in communications. Fortunately, Gays.com offered me this opportunity and here I am today, in my dream job working for a dream company :)
So, there you have it (well a bit of it) and now I will be your go-to person for anything related to Gays.com. I will act as an intermediary to let the wonderful designers and developers at Gays.com know what you want (and don’t want). Be gentle with me as I settle in…nah, what the heck, go for it; come and talk to me :)
