On May 16 — that’s just one day before IDAHO — LGBT Singaporeans and their friends and family members are going to dress up in pink and head down to the city’s Speaker’s Corner at Hong Lim Park to celebrate diversity, equality and the right to love. There, they will come together to create a giant pink dot, of which aerial photographs will be taken. Pink is the awesome colour you get when you mix red and white, Singapore’s national colours, and it’s also the colour of the Singapore identity card. Check out this video featuring three local celebrities urging open-minded Singaporeans to step out for the first such event in the country. We’re told the organisers chose May 16 because it’s right in between May 15, the International Family Day and May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia.
And here’s another really well-done, heartwarming video featuring straight Singaporeans of various ethnicities and backgrounds talking about their gay friends. It includes local actors, celebrity bloggers, and even faith leaders such as Angie Monksfield, President of the Singapore Buddhist Fellowship, and Rev Dr Yap Kim Hao, former bishop of the Methodist Church.
