I think I just found a good reason to forgive Madonna for cancelling her Drowned World Tour concerts in Cologne in 2001 after we queued up overnight and braved a stampede for her tickets. In her latest concert in Bucharest, Romania, Madonna was booed by the crowd for daring to tell them:
“I’ve never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here. But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in eastern Europe and that makes me very sad. Especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. It makes me very sad. Everyone must be treated the same, don’t forget that.”
The mainstream media has been relatively silent on the incident, which has mostly been covered by celebrity blogs and gay blogs. But, if anything, we’re heartened by the fact that amidst the boos, there were still a few people cheering Madonna on for her statement. Still, the booing was enough for Madonna to let out a frustrated “goddammit” at 1:20 into the clip.

Wow, I didn’t know this. Still beats the heck out of the Republican administration, though.
