I think I just found a good reason to forgive Madonna for cancelling her Drowned World Tour concerts in Cologne in 2001 after we queued up overnight and braved a stampede for her tickets. In her latest concert in Bucharest, Romania, Madonna was booed by the crowd for daring to tell them:
“I’ve never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here. But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in eastern Europe and that makes me very sad. Especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. It makes me very sad. Everyone must be treated the same, don’t forget that.”
The mainstream media has been relatively silent on the incident, which has mostly been covered by celebrity blogs and gay blogs. But, if anything, we’re heartened by the fact that amidst the boos, there were still a few people cheering Madonna on for her statement. Still, the booing was enough for Madonna to let out a frustrated “goddammit” at 1:20 into the clip.

it seems your article misinterpreted the audiences response to Madonna. It sounded as if they were booing in agreement with the statement Madonna was making – booing the discrimination. The goddamnit she let out, sounded more as a reaffirmation of the statement she just made, not at all in frustration with the crowd, simply an emphatic remark to her previous statement. Try to listen beneath what people say before assuming what their responses are. Love -

I don’t know about that, Christine. From what I gather, Romania is a very homophobic place.

I fully agree with Christine. The author of this article really misinterpreted the audiences response to Madonna…
