Butch: Femme Masculinity
A Gay Butch conjures up images of exceptional masculinity. And this can apply to both gay men and lesbians. The male version will appear to be virile, swashbuckling and practically secreting bravado. He looks like ‘a real man’. But be warned. Gay Butch is a form of gender performance. So here’s what you can really expect when getting down and dirty with this most sought-after tribe.
Who uses the term Gay Butch?
Butch-femme culture is most associated with lesbians. And Butch Dyke is a term still commonly used in lesbian subculture.
But what does it mean in the context of a relationship? It all goes back to the heterosexual model of a husband and a wife. For lesbians, one female partner adopts a masculine appearance and behaviour. Meanwhile, her femme partner happily falls into the female role.
Additionally, the term is used to describe men who have sex with men. One man is the femme in the relationship. Perhaps he has a penchant for Kylie Minogue t-shirts and bleached blonde hair - at age 45. And, of course, he’s always ready to be dominated by his all-male lover. At least, this is what the stereotype tells us.
What does a Gay Butch wear?
Enter the leather-clad Doctor Martin wearing dyke with a shaved head and swagger that would put the fear of god into a heavy-weight boxer.
Then make way for the male Gay Butch, who may well be the heavy-weight boxer. Or at least resemble one with those mighty Guns.
But being a Gay Butch is more than a look. It’s an attitude. It’s confidence and competence. Or perhaps just plentiful posturing.
How good is a Gay Butch at sex?
Let’s cut to the vital question. Does he harbour a super-charged schlong to give you the pounding of your life?
How could it ever be otherwise when he is so deliciously macho?
But assume nothing about sexual roles. Many are the Gay Butches who instantly turn helium heels with a mere glance at a bottle of lube.
