Hey there,

As you may already know, the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect on 25 May 2018, which is designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe.  As a result, we have updated our Privacy Policy (PP) and Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) – hence that popup screen when you log in.

Below you'll find the most important information for you about all of this, but, if you have any questions, please write to our support staff, who will be happy to help.

*****************

Firstly, there's no change as to how we process your data, and we will continue to deal responsibly with your data, just as before.  All the popup does is to make sure you acknowledge and agree on the changes we've made to our PP and T&Cs.

If you object to the changes we've made to our PP and T&Cs obviously, we'll have to accept it!  However, if you object, this would mean that we'd have to end our relationship, cancel any current membership and delete your profile, which would be a shame. With the deletion, all your contacts will go, you’ll lose all your hard earned points, reviews and conversations. Plus, you’d be missing out on future adventures!

Some background information:
We're taking the principles of article 5 of the GDPR very seriously, fairness and transparency are one of those principles - among others. Based on this, and in addition to those from article 12 of the GDPR for clear and straightforward language in our data protection information, we have decided to share the details on how we process data explicitly in our PP.

As described in the PP, we're not changing anything on how we process your data; we're merely interpreting the obligations of the GDPR to inform you - our customer.  We understand that these clear explanations may be a little daunting at first, but, as explained in the PP, all data processing happens while incorporating organisational, technical or contractual obligations.

Finally, over the last year, we have formed a team that deals solely with anything related to GDPR and who makes sure we stay up to date. We've done this based on our belief that you deserve to be confident in placing your trust in us to be responsible with your data - above and beyond these legal standards.

That's it for now,
Your Gays.com Team

Quick FAQ
What happens if I don't agree with the PP and T&C?
We will have to end our relationship and say goodbye. Your profile will be deleted, and your membership cancelled to ensure that we are not processing any of your data anymore.

Can I object to only specific areas in the PP/T&C?
Sadly this would lead to the same conclusion as if you object to them as a whole.

What is meant by “processing”?
Anything that is 'done' with data is under the umbrella of “processing”.  For example, if we only save your data and don’t do anything else with it – this is already deemed as “processing”.  Put simply, for you to be able to use our site, we have to process your data.

Why don't other companies have such a long and detailed Privacy Policy?
We want to be transparent and act responsibly about the way we handle your data.  Hence, we've decided to be as thorough as possible when it comes to our obligations to keep you informed about what happens to your data.
